Pouderoyen Shostoppers maintain unbeaten run

Uitvlugt sealed their berth in the quarterfinal round, edging arch-rivals Den Amstel 1-0 when the group stage of the inaugural Guinness of the Streets West Demerara edition concluded on Thursday at the Vergenoegen Tarmac.

Needing to win to seal their position, Colin Benjamin proved to be the difference between the two sides in the 12th minute, finishing to the centre of the net from outside the left half of the area, after collecting a Owen McGarrell right sided pass following a two-on-one situation.

Den Amstel almost levelled the score two minutes onward but a Delon Lanferman strike from the centre of the area, was cleared desperately off the goalline by the final defender.

McGarrell almost put the issue beyond doubt for Uitvlugt in the 19th minute but his left footed drive from the left side of the field collided into the left upright, much to the disappointment of the large viewership.

Pouderoyen Showstoppers maintained their unbeaten run in tourney, dismissing Samaroo Dam 2-0. Marvin Josiah broke the deadlock in the 20th minute with a left footed dagger into the right corner from the left side of the field.

Josiah would then seal the win four minutes later in a carbon copy of the first goal, thumping his effort with his favoured leg from the left side into the right hand corner.

In the fourth fixture, Raiders booked their spot in the knockout section, scuttling Demerara Speedboat by a 3-0 score line. Kevin Marshall netted the opener in the sixth minute, stabbing home to the left corner following a goal mouth scramble.

Alonzo Bowman would then make it 2-0 in the 18th minute, placing his right footed attempt into the back of the net after collecting a left sided pass within the right side of the field. The match would then be put to bed six minutes later as Ronsdale Knight scored into an empty goal unmarked.

The fifth fixture of the card witnessed West Side Ballers needling Jetty by a 1-0 margin. Dwayne St. Kitts found the winner in the 18th minute with a flat strike from the centre of the field, which took a deflection and settled into the back of the net.

In other results, Brothers United earned their berth to the next round, defeating home side Vergenoegen All-Stars 3-0 compliments of an Adami Hoyte double in the 13th and 22nd minutes. Opening the scoring for the winners in the fourth minute was sibling Gadi Hoyte.

Also punching their ticket to the next round was the unbeaten Patentia Street Ballers who defeated Majee Street 3-2 on sudden death kicks. The score line at the end of normal time was 0-0.

The second fixture of the night saw Admiral United downing Showtime 2-1 on penalty kicks after normal ended 1-1. Kevon McPherson netted for Admiral in the 20th minute while Toine Lopes scored for Showtime via the penalty spot in the 22nd minute.

In the opening match of the night, Golden Stars upset DeKinderen 1-0 to end their tourney on a high note. Sebastian Edwards separated the two sides with a 20th minute strike.

In the second match of the night for both teams, Jetty Gunners squeaked past Samaroo Dam 3-2 on sudden death kicks after normal time ended 0-0.  The action is slated to continue today at the same venue with the quarterfinal round.
