CGI/GCB congratulates Guyana Jaguars on B/dos victory

Local franchise, Cricket Guy Inc. (CGI) and the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) yesterday congratulated the Guyana Jaguars team following its remarkable come-from-behind victory against the Barbados Pride on Monday.

“The win displayed the sort of character that our team is capable of since they were playing catch up with Barbados throughout the match until the fourth day,” the release stated.

“Rain almost robbed us of completing this revenge victory against our arch rivals, Barbados, but the Jaguars held their nerve to score at nearly three and a half runs per over in this innings to record the highest run rate for the match,” the release added.

The Guyana Jaguars management team also came in for praise.

“Not to be forgotten is the management team who obviously had our team well and truly motivated to complete this crucial seventh round win which was almost a final,” stated the release.

Set at a seemingly improbable target of 333 for victory, the Guyana Jaguars went about their task with admirable professionalism and game awareness, scoring the highest total in the match and the highest fourth innings total by a Regional team at Kensington Oval for victory.

Almost all the batsmen who failed in the first innings made amends in the second innings which resulted in a resounding victory.

Narsingh Deonarine top scored with 90, Shivnarine Chanderpaul crafted 64, Rajendra Chandrika laid the platform with 60, and Raymon Reifer and Anthony Bramble saw the Jaguars home with unbeaten knocks of 41 and 27 respectively during the rain hit match.

The Jaguars now remain on top with a 107 points with six victories from seven matches, a clear 25 points ahead of the second placed Barbados who sit on 82 points.

“CGI and the GCB wish to also congratulate young West Indies Test Opener, Kraigg Braithwaite for recording two centuries in this match,” the release added.

The Jaguars returned home yesterday and will take some much needed rest and resume their training ahead of their clash against Jamaica which bowls off on March 6 at the Guyana National Stadium.
