U15 Select Squad defeat B/ce

The Guyana Under-15 select squad stunned Berbice in a low scoring thriller by four wickets in their Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Under-17 first round encounter.

Yesterday, on a slow and low Everest Cricket Club pitch, which offered a great amount of turn, the Guyana U-15 team won with 8.1 overs remaining. Berbice, sent in to take first strike, was restricted to 98 all out in 34 overs.

Left-arm spinners Kevin Umroa 3-17 from 10 overs and Ashmead Nedd 2-9 from seven overs, accounted for five wickets while off-spinner Kelvon Anderson supported with 2-37.

Mathew Hardial and Kris Ramnarine made 17 and 15 runs respectively for the Ancient County.

Replying to the small total the national side took 41.5 overs to reach the target, with opener Junior Sinclair (22), skipper Nedd 20 not out and Anderson an unbeaten 11 the main contributors with the bat.

Asif Ali’s 10 overs cost just 18 runs and he took three wickets while Kevin Sinclair sent down 10 overs for five runs. He captured two wickets.

The winners will clash with the defending champions Demerara today at the Police Sports Club ground while Berbice will take on Essequibo at Everest.
