Eight matches kick off Demerara leg

The third annual Greatest Guinness of the Streets, East Coast Demerara zone will officially commence today at the Haslington Marker Tarmac with eight matches.

In the opening match at 19:00hrs, Church Yard United will face off with Paradise in a group-B affair while Vryheid’s Lust will oppose former winners Plaisance-A at 19:30hrs in a group-D fixture.

The third matchup at 20:00hrs will pit Buxton against Plaisance-B in a group-A showdown while Nabaclis will match skills with Victoria Eagles from 20:30hrs in a group-D showdown.

At 21:00hrs, group-C will take centre stage when Ann’s Grove Punters battle Beterverwagting (BV)-B while defending champs Melanie-A will hope to get their campaign off to the perfect start when they oppose Mahaica in the second fixture of the group at 21:30hrs.

The final two matchups of the night will pit Golden Grove Superstars against Melanie-B in a group-B matchup at 22:00hrs and BV-A against   home side and newcomers Haslington from 22:30hrs in a group-A fixture.

Winners of the event will receive $300,000 and the championship trophy while the second place side will collect $150,000 and the runners-up accolade. The third and fourth place finishers will collect $100,000 and $75,000 respectively.

Upon the completion of the event, the top two teams in the tourney will represent the region at the national tournament to be hosted later in the year.
