Amelia’s Ward, Silver City reach semi-final

Amelia’s Ward and Silver City Valley Combined sealed the semi-final berths in the Stag Beer sponsored Brooklyn X2 promotions inter-ward knockout football tourney, defeating Canvas City and Silvertown respectively on Friday.

Hosted at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) ground in Linden, Amelia’s Ward defeated Canvas City by a 2-1 margin in their quarterfinal fixture. Veteran ball-weaver Travis Watterton opened the scoring for the winners with a 43rd minute conversion.

Canvas City would then level the score in the 52nd minute as Michael Bowen netted. However, Amelia’s Ward would not be denied as Shawn Daniels scored in the 76th minute. In the other matchup, Silver City Valley Combined crushed Silvertown by a 2-0 score line.

Oswald Benjamin settled the outcome with a double on either side of half time in the 32nd and 54th minutes respectively.

Amelia’s Ward will faceoff with Blueberry Hill in the semi-final on Friday at the same venue from 21:00hrs while Christianburg will tackle Silver City Valley Combined in the opening semi-final from 19:00hrs.

The event which will conclude on May 6th at the same location after the resulting Linden Town Week, will be contested for over $700,000 in cash and prizes.

Event victors will walk away with $400,000 and the championship trophy while the second place side will receive $200,000 and the respective trophy. The third positioned side will receive $125,000 and the corresponding trophy while the fourth place finisher will receive $75,000.
