At a simple ceremony held recently at the Crabwood Creek Sports Complex proprietor of 4R Bearings of Duncan Street, Georgetown, Ricky Deonarain confirmed the staging of the tournament.

Deonarain, an influential businessman who is also one of the country’s top softball players, will plough a couple of hundred thousand dollars into the tournament which will see the winning team receiving $100,000 and a trophy.

The competition will be played in four zones with the top two teams in each zone advancing to the knock out stages. The preliminary rounds will be played on a round robin basis, home and away. Teams will most likely find themselves playing two matches on the same day allowing the host to organize a little fundraiser for the club.

The final will be played under lights at the Crabwood Creek Sports Complex.

This competition is being organized by the Upper Corentyne Cricket Association.
