First of two Demerara Trial matches commences today

Starting today at the Wales Community Development Centre ground some 36 players will compete in the first of two Trial matches for a place on the Demerara squad ahead of the Guyana Cricket Board’s (GCB) senior inter county competition.

Each trial match will last for three days and will be used to select the Demerara 14-man squad for the inter-county competition. The second trial match is expected to get underway next Wednesday.

However, the GCB is yet to release the fixtures for the inter-county tournament but with the West Indies Cricket Board franchise auction approaching, it is expected to commence shortly.

According to a source close to the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB), it is compulsory for the players to participate in at least one trial match in order to be eligible for selection. The source also stated that the possibility of a third trial match exists to facilitate players who are plying their trade professionally.

Several of the players listed are currently in Trinidad and Tobago or Barbados or Canada, playing competitive cricket and are expected home to participate in the Trials.

All the identified players are asked to be present at the ground promptly at 9:00 a.m.
