Golfers get 18 accolades in Beacon Ministries tourney

A total of 18 accolades were awarded to several golfers for their outstanding performance in the third annual Beacon Ministries tournament held at the Lusignan Golf Club last weekend.

The overall Best Net trophies were won by Richard Haniff who placed first; Kalyan Tiwari, second and Mike Mangal, third. The other winners in the 0-9 category are first, Mike Mangal 66/9; second, Patrick Prashad 70/9 and third, Christine Sukhram 71/9.

In the 10 – 18 category, first, Richard Haniff 65/18; second, Kalyan Tiwari 65/18; third, Kishan Bacchus 66/17 and in the 19 – 38 category, first, Rabindranauth ‘Pandit Ravi’ Persaud 68/25; second, Lochan Ramroop 68/28 and third, Shanella Webster 68/21.

The Longest Drive play-off was won by Avinda Kishore 260 yards; second, Richard Haniff 250 yds and third Jetendra ‘Naro’ Dhanpat 246 yds. The Nearest to the Pin winners were; first Sookram ‘Double Hand’ Deosarran, second Patrick Prashad and third David Mohamad.

In his congratulatory remarks to the winners, Dr Philbert London, founder and presiding head of Beacon Ministries, encouraged the golfers to strive for the best performance. “We believe that those who do well should be rewarded and who knows, maybe someday Beacon Ministries will provide prizes for first to sixth places so that many more participants will be rewarded!” he said.

Club President David Mohamad thanked Dr London for the well-co-ordinated tournament, and for the innovative Longest Drive and Nearest to The Pin competitions. He noted that he had gleaned ideas for innovations in other tournaments.
