Barbadian Cummins hoping for happy return to Red Steel

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Fast bowler Miguel Cummins is already training his sights on the upcoming Caribbean Premier League, and says he hopes to help Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel make a big impression on the tournament.

The 24-year-old Barbadian has returned to Red Steel whom he represented in the inaugural CPL season, before turning out for Antigua Hawksbills last year.

Cummins had a disappointing season, bowling just nine overs in five outings and claiming a single wicket.

“Last year had some okay games and some not so okay games. It is a learning process. You have to keep learning to get better,” Cummins told the Trinidad Express newspaper.

“My goal is to do what the team wants. I am a team person first and once the team does well I will be happy.”

He will be part of a Red Steel side that features the likes of South African star Jacques Kallis, Pakistan’s Kamran Akmal and which will be led by West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo.

They bowl off their campaign against St Lucia Zouks at Beausejour before clashing with reigning champions Barbados Tridents in their second match at Kensington Oval.

Cummins believes Red Steel have a strong enough side to challenge any team in the July 20 to July 26 tournament.

I think we have a pretty good chance this year. The team is well balanced. We have a lot of batsmen and a lot of bowlers and everyone has the potential to be a game-winner and a game-changer so we will just go out there and do our best,” he said.

Red Steel reached as far as the semi-finals last year where they were outed by 2013 champions Jamaica Tallawahs.

The CPL is the Caribbean’s premier Twenty20 tournament and features six teams – Barbados Tridents, Guyana Amazon Warriors, Jamaica Tallawahs, St Lucia Zouks, T&T Red Steel and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.
