Colts make light work of Republic Bank Nets

Colts blew out Republic Bank Nets 81-55 when the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) ‘King of the Hard Court’ championships continued Wednesday at Burnham Court.

Shane Webster led all scorers with 32 points while Shelroy Thomas and Dave Causeway contributed 18 and 10 points respectively.

For Nets, Mortimer Williams scored 16 points and Pelham Doris and Mark Gilberts 14 and 10 points each.

A first quarter blitz effectively ended the contest before it started as Colts outshot Nets 28-12.

Leading 10-6 in the opening five minutes, Colts would close out the period in dominant fashion compliments of an 18-4 run.

Webster was the vehicle for the assault as he netted 16 points via six layups and two short-range jump-shots. Chipping in with five points each were Thomas and Causeway who each nailed three pointers.

Netting six points compliments of three layups was veteran guard Mortimer Williams. The home side would further extend their advantage in the second period as they outscored Nets by a 21-18 margin to go into the half-time interval leading 49-30.

Webster once again was the primary threat, netting eight points through two layups, two free-throws and a jump-shot while Haslyn Hooper battled to four points. Netting three pointers during this period were

Thomas, Causeway and Jacob Lowe with Doris and Williams scoring five points each.

The pivotal third period would witness Colts maintaining their lead as they outshot Nets 16-15 to go into the final period ahead 65-45.

Thomas and Webster were the main scorers for Colts with four points each from layups. On the other side, Williams led Nets with five points inclusive of a three pointer with seven seconds remaining while Gilbert netted four points through two layups.

Colts would then close out the match in the final period, outscoring Nets 16-10. Thomas registered six points through three layups while Webster and Delon LaRose netted four points apiece.

For the Mandela Avenue based outfit, Doris shot his way to five points’ compliments of a three pointer at 2:23 and a mid-range jumper.

In the earlier matchup of the section, University of Guyana (UG) Trojans downed Melanie Patriots 75-61. Emmanuel Archibald was the top shooter in the win with 25 points while Akeem Kanhai was the next best scorer with 23 points.

Chipping in with 11 points was Colwick Benjamin. On the losing side, Sherlon Legall led the offence with 19 points while Sheldon Noel and Floyd Arthur supported with 11 and 10 points correspondingly.

The earlier matchup of the evening saw Raven’s downing Colts by a 63-43 margin in an u-23 matchup. Sebastian Luke top scored with 17 points while Carlos Edwards, Triston Burnette and Rondell Arthur netted 12, 11 and 10 points respectively.

On the other side, Jonathan Pooran scored 14 points while Amoniki John and Jafar Gibbons netted six and five points apiece.
