“In keeping with its objective to promote the growth of sport shooting locally, the members of the board indicated that they will be starting regulated amateur trap shooting and archery shortly,” stated the release.

Minister Henry, according to the release, welcomed the gesture and said that her ministry would work towards a positive outcome.

She expressed her commitment to work with the federation and posited that she also looks forward to the initiative of introducing archery as a sport to Guyana with a focus on both indoor and outdoor archery.

Henry, the release stated, said that she will make crucial inputs in this area especially since it involves two other areas she is passionate about, youth and education.

The GSSF, which is affiliated to three international bodies, the Steel Challenge Shooting Association, the Amateur Trapshooting Association and more recently the World Archery Federation, is currently in discussion to bring an internationally renowned archer very soon to Guyana whose experience in competing at World Cup events and technical expertise will aid in establishing the sport on a solid foundation.

Minister Henry declared that she was excited to work with the federation to aid in the promotion and development of the various Sport Shooting disciplines, the release added.

Both the minister and the delegation assented to strive together to build a stronger working relationship for the benefit of all Guyanese as the federation continues to uphold its recognition as a sport body promoting sport, specifically in the field of sport shooting locally, regionally and internationally.
