BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Barbados Tridents captain Kieron Pollard has assured there will be no let up from his side when they clash with St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the final home game of the Caribbean Premier League here today.
The hosts have racked up three wins on the trot over difficult opposition and now face Patriots who went down in their opening game of the CPL campaign to St Lucia Zouks last Wednesday.
However, Pollard said despite the success so far, Tridents still had the burning desire to win.
“There will be no relaxation. One of the key words in the dressing room is complacency. We don’t want to get complacent at all so we’re looking forward to having a rest day tomorrow (yesterday) and then come back on Saturday and see if we can repeat this performance,” Pollard said in a post-match interview.
“Obviously they’re a good team, they have some world class players in their line up but at the end of the day, we just have to sit and plan well and at the end of the day, once we play our cricket and don’t take on too much of the opposition, I think that’s most important.”
Playing in their latest game on Thursday night at Kensington Oval, Tridents reduced Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel to three runs for four wickets before restricting them to 95 for nine off their 20 overs. Fast bowler Jason Holder was brilliant, taking three for 11 from four overs, to earn Man-of-the-Match honours.
Tridents then chased down their target with time and effort to spare but Pollard said they had the ability to be even more clinical.
“There’s always areas to improve. Our fielding sort of let us down tonight and there were a couple other chances … but having said that we’ll take the win and work on our weaknesses come practice,” he pointed out.
He added: “The confidence is high. I think it was a good game today. The bowlers bowled pretty well and this was the first game that we were actually bowling first. I think it was a superb effort from Jason Holder and Ravi Rampaul with the new ball and well supported by the spinners and all the bowlers.
“When you step on a cricket field you want to win and I think what we are doing here is doing the basics right where we are preparing well. Hopefully we can continue.”
