New Campbellville Secondary’s campaign off to rousing start

New Campbellville Secondary got their campaign off to the perfect start, humbling Sophia Training Centre 6-1 when the 5th edition of the Digicel Secondary Schools Football Championship continued yesterday at the Tucville ground.

Javon Cush opened the scoring for the winners in the 16th, placing his right footed strike into the back of the net from within the penalty box. Cordell Nunes would then make it 2-0 four minutes onward, burying his effort into the right side of the goal from within the box.

The score line would balloon once more in the 23rd minute as Emmanuel Pross etched his name on the scorer’s sheet with a finish down the centre of the net.

Nunes would then seal his double in the 40th minute with a powerful strike into the right corner net from the right side of the area, further putting distance between the two teams.

On the back foot for most of the engagement, Sophia Training Centre would eventually pull one back three minutes later as Trquist Moore scored, rifling a powerful right footed shot into the lower left hand corner from just within the right side of the area.

Despite their concession, New Campbellville would continue to add to their tally as Kenroy Baptiste scored in the 61st minute, lashing a left sided strike into the middle of the net, after it took a marginal deflection off the body of a defender and wrong-footed the keeper.

The lopsided score line would then be confirmed in the 67th minute compliments of well-placed penalty kick conversion by Trevon Pluck into the lower left hand corner, following an infraction within the centre of the box.

Over at the Burnham Park ground, New Amsterdam Technical Institute (NATI) defeated Lower Corentyne Secondary via walkover. At the Golden Grove Community ground, Bygeval Secondary crushed Hope Secondary by a 4-1 score line.
