Mc Donald, Persaud win U18 singles titles

Daniel Lopes and Aretta Dey trounced Jason Andrews and Afruica Gentle on Saturday to advance to the final of the Guyana Tennis Association (GTA) premier tournament, the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) Open competition.

Played at the bank’s recreational facility in Bel Air, the youthful pair continued their impressive run in the competition by upsetting Andrews and Gentle 6/2 6/0.

They will contest the final against the pair of Godfrey Lowden and Carol Humphrey.

Mark McDonald and Jordan Beaton reached the boys U18 final after defeating Hemraj Resaul and Keenan Persaud respectively in the semi-finals.

In the final Mc Donald won 6-4, 6-4. Beaton had looked solid in the opening set racing out to a two games to love lead (2-0).

However Mc Donald played a consistent level of tennis with the right amount of aggression to secure the title as he upset the favourite.

In the girls’ division, Kalysia Fraser defeated Sarah Klautky while Shivani Persaud defeated Diana Bharrat in the semi-finals.

In the final Persaud triumphed 7-6 (7-2), 4-6, 10-5.

On Saturday Leyland Leacock defeated Benjettan Osborne, 6/3, 6/2 to advance to the next round of the men’s singles.
