B/ce women retain Inter-County One-Day title

Berbice romped to a comprehensive seven-wicket win over Demerara to retain their Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) senior female Inter County One-Day title in the final round played at the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) ground on Monday.

Spinner Natasha Gangoo, who was adjudged MVP, bagged 3-10 while Steffi Rodney claimed 2-9, Subrina Munroe 2-11 and Plaffiana Millington and Sheneta Grimmond ended with one wicket each as Demerara were dismissed for 67 in 41.2 overs with Kavita Yadram top-scoring with 15.

Gangoo then struck three fours in an unbeaten knock of 13, and, along with contributions from Hassena Mohamed (13) and Grimmond (13) who shared a 26-run partnership, they took the champs to 68-3 in 21.4 overs.

GCB Territorial Development Officer (TDO) Colin Stuart said there were some challenges in running off the tournament but stated that they are looking at the possibility of using eight teams in future competitions (male and female).

The selectors will now shortlist a 26-member team from which the national women’s team will be selected.

Millington, Yadram, Tremayne Smartt and Munroe could be possible front-runners for national selection.
