Pan Am games medal hunt begins today

Guyana’s rugby, badminton and squash players will spring into action today on Day 1 of competition of the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada.

All three disciplines, badminton, squash and rugby will be contested at Markham and Downtown Toronto.

Guyana’s two member badminton team of Priyanna and Narayan Ramdhani will be in action in the men’s and women’s singles and mixed doubles events.

Narayan Ramdhani will take on Nel Ozuna Javier of the Dominican Republic in a round of 32 match this morning while his sister Priyanna will play Be Munoz Polanco of the Dominican Republic.

In the mixed doubles competition, Narayan and Priyanna Ramdhani will play Cristian Araya and Ting Ting Chou of Chile.

In squash, two players Sunil Seth and Jason-Ray Khalil will be in action today in the men’s singles while the third player Kristian Jeffrey will partner Khalil in men’s doubles action on Monday.

Seth takes on Mauricio Sedano of Guatemala in a round of 32 match on Court 4 while Khalil will play Pa Anckermann also of Guatamala in another round of 32 encounter on the Main Court.

On Monday Khalil and Jeffrey will play their men’s doubles match against Canada’s Andrew Schnell and Graeme Schnell.

Guyana’s ruggers were drawn in Pool B where they will face Argentina (2nd seed) Canada (3rd seed) and Brazil (6th seed) today.

Pool A consist of the USA (1st seed), Uruguay (4th seed), Chile (5th seed) and Mexico (8th seed).

Guyana and Mexico earned their spots at the Pan Am Championships after finishing first and second at last year’s NACRA 7s Championships.

At the July 10-26 Games, Guyana will also be represented in the disciplines of swimming and athletics.
