GRFU stages successful one week camp

- Yhip calls on business community for more support

The Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) in collaboration with Scotiabank Limited recently held a one week summer camp at the Buxton Community Centre ground.

Scotiabank which has pledged to support the programme again next year, pumped some $700,000 into this year’s programme, a release from the GRFU stated.

The camp, which was conducted by the GRFU’s Youth Development Officers Troy Yhip, Laurie Adonis and Theodore Henry, attracted over 140 youngsters.

The Get-into-Rugby programme saw youths from the Buxton area, the Drop-in Center and the Sophia Care Center being taught the basic skills of the game, the GRFU release stated.

The camp concluded with the youths being involved in friendly games of tag-Rugby which helped them put into practice some of the basic skills learnt during the camp.

According to Yhip, the prospects of Guyana’s rugby seems bright.

Yhip, the release stated, called for more financial support from the business community and government in sustaining the programme as the GRFU attempts to help the youths become more disciplined and rounded individuals through sports.
