Guyana’s Coach Julian Moore and the Twin Island Republic’ coach Glen Dwarika said they were a bit disappointed with the outcome of yesterday’s game which was called off without a ball being bowled after the umpires decided that the outfield and some parts of the outfield close to the pitch were too damp to allow play.

Dwarika said that he was disappointed because upon his arrival at the venue he was greeted with sharp sunshine which he thought was excellent for a 50 over day’s play of cricket. However, some overnight showers had turned the outfield into a swamp despite ardent efforts from the grounds men who worked most of the day to get the ground ready.

Dwarika said he felt that the ground staff could have been a bit more in control of the situation because he felt that the youngsters who were here some four days now should not just be sitting around for too long without play.

Nevertheless, the Trinidadian said he hoped that things would be better today for all the matches so that the points can be earned. His Counterpart Moore was a bit more understanding as a Guyanese and a Berbician, stating that he was indeed disappointed but was more focused on the future games.

Moore explained that it was important to get off to the first match win and with the knowledge that that his boys trained hard and were raring to go, he would have liked to lock horns with the Trinidadians.

Moore added that the rainfall and the size of the ground posed a challenge for the few groundsmen at Albion, but was adamant about today’s encounter. Over at Enmore, match two between Barbados and Leewards suffered the same fate as Guyana as their match was also abandoned without a ball being bowled while at Providence, the Windward Islands beat Jamaica by 46 runs thanks to skipper Kimani Melius who hit 79, Tijourn Pope who scored 56 and Jahseon Alexander who took 3-29. The Jamaicans were restricted for 161-8, replying to the Windwards 204-8.

Weather permitting, Guyana will tackle Leewards at Providence, Barbados and Jamaica will battle at Albion and lastly, Trinidad & Tobago and Windwards at Enmore.
