Tourney co-hosts sent packing

Tourney co-hosts Sparta Boss were sent packing from the inaugural RDE Vibes and Sparta Boss ‘King of the Streets’ Football Tourney, going down to Bent Street by a 2-0 margin on Thursday at the former’s East La Penitence based tarmac.

With both sides needing a win to seal their position in the knockout round, Ryan Hackett stunned the large gathering in the 14th minute, rifling a first time left footed shot into the back of the net, after collecting a pass on the right side of the wing.

Bent Street then sealed the upset win two minutes onward as Daniel Wilson calmly scored, intercepting a wayward pass from Travis Grant before skipping past the final defender and finishing unchallenged into the empty net.

In the third affair, East Ruimveldt edged West Ruimveldt unit Upsetters by a 1-0 score line. Vassel Cantzelaar stabbed his effort into the back of the net in the sixth minute, following a goal-mouth scramble to seal the hard-fought and bruising contest.

The fifth fixture saw Cross Street edging West Demerara side Raiders 1-0. Dellon David proved to be the difference between the teams, netting in the seventh minute compliments of a left sided strike into the lower left hand corner of the net.

The seventh fixture of the night witnessed Island All-Stars downing Beterverwagting (BV) by a 1-0 margin. Delon Hyman netted in the seventh minute, stabbing his effort into the back of the net from in-front of the goal.

Similarly, West Demerara unit Patentia Street Ballers defeated traditional giants Back Circle by a 1-0 score line via sudden death kicks, after the normal time interval failed to separate the two sides at nil-all.

In other results, Sophia defeated West Demerara unit Brothers United via walkover while West Back Road defeated East Coast of Demerara outfit Plaisance in an identical manner. Also claiming a win via the walkover route was North Ruimveldt over West Side Ballers.

Winner of the tournament will walk away with $400,000 and the championship trophy while the second, third and fourth place sides will receive $150,000, $80,000 and $20,000 correspondingly. Action in the event is slated to continue today at the same venue.
