Niles sprints off with the spoils

Yesterday was a great day on the saddle for Junior Niles as the veteran wheelsman sprinted off with the spoils of the feature 35-lap race of the Degree sponsored criterium event at the National Park.

The Team Coco’s captain who completed the feature in one hour, 18 minutes and 22 seconds also won the veteran’s under 50 five-lap race.

In the marquee event of the 15th annual fixture, Niles bested fellow podium finishers Akeem Wilkinson and Shaquel Agard in a thrilling sprint finish while his club mate, Jamal John, Paul DeNobrega and Robin Persaud completed the top six rewarding positions.

There were 10 registrants.

Before the feature, Niles completed the five lap event in 12 minutes and 45 seconds ahead of Ralph Williams and Ian Jackson.

Other winners yesterday included his son John Niles (BMX Boys 6-9), Toshwanna Doris (Boys and Girls 12-14 Years), Linden Blackman (Veterans Over 50 years), Jamal John (Juveniles), Ozia McAulay (Mountain Bike) and Adeli Hodge (BMX Boys 12-14).

The cycling season continues this morning at 08:00hrs with the Powerade sponsored 50-mile road race at West Demerara.
