Top teams record easy wins as Telenec competition gets underway

Tucber Park, Albion and Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club recorded easy wins in round one of the Bobby Deonarine/Tom Gruntzel sponsored Tenelec Inc. 50 overs first-division cricket competition played in Berbice.

At Edinburgh, the home team won the toss, batted, and made a disappointing 85 all out in 35.1 overs of their reduced allotment of 46 overs due to rain. Denny David top scored with 34 and Jamal Henry supported with 23.

who took two wickets each. Kevin Pellew also took two wickets while with West Indies female all-rounder Treymaine Smart ended with one.

Tucber Park raced to their revised target of 38 from 8.1 overs of their allotted 20 overs with Romario Shepherd leading the way with 23.

Over at Skeldon, the home team won the toss and batted first but were bundled out for 115 after West Indies leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo got some ideal match preparation ahead of the upcoming West Indies team’s tour of Sri Lanka, with a successful spell of 5 for 29.

Former West Indies U19 left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie-Kanhai supported his teammate with 3 for 11 while out-of-favor West Indies left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul ended with 2 for 10. In reply, the powerful Albion raced to victory losing just three wickets and were led home by

National wicket-keeper/batsman Anthony Bramble who scored an unbeaten 56 and the hard-hitting Jonathan Foo who made 35.

At Cumberland, Port Mourant won the toss against Young Warriors and were well-placed at 114 for 2 off 25 of their allotted overs when the downpour washed out the rest of the game with Lloyd Lewis unbeaten on 42.

The second round is set for Saturday.
