Slingerz FC whips GFC 5-0

Slingerz FC got their Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Stag Beer Elite League back on the right track, dismantling Georgetown Football Club (GFC) by a 5-0 score line on Wednesday at the Camp Ayanganna ground.

Though they were guilty of wasting several chances in the opening period, the Vergenoegen side were in devastating form in the second stanza as they netted four times in the period.

Dexroy Adams led the second half assault with conversions in the 60th and 61st minutes while Anthony ‘Awo’ Abrams, Vurlon Mills and Julian Wade found the back of the net in the 21st, 54th and 63rd minutes respectively.

As a result of the win, Slingerz FC jump to 12 points and secured the third position. GFC on the other hand, remain in the cellar position with five points.

Abrams got the West Demerara offence rolling 21 minutes into the first period, unleashing a powerful header from the left side of the field which struck the body of a defender and settled into the net after a cross from a right-sided corner kick evaded the grasp of the onrushing custodian.

Slingerz then doubled their advantage under similar circumstances nine minutes into the second stanza when Mills scored a clinical header into the right-hand side, after collecting a left-sided cross from Dwayne St Kitts within the centre of the box.

It quickly ballooned to 3-0 minutes later as Adams slotted home into the right-hand corner from within the left side of the box. Adams then recorded his second of the night to push the score line to 4-0, finishing into the lower right-hand corner from within the centre of the box.

Jude Wade then sealed the lopsided contest moments onward, cutting across the penalty box from the right side of the field before placing his effort into the lower right-hand corner of the net.

In the feature contest of the night, Pele brushed aside arch-rival Alpha United 3-0. Action in the championship will continue tomorrow at the No. #5 ground in Berbice with another doubleheader.
