Pele crush GFC 6-0 to maintain lead

League leaders Pele FC continued their dominant showing in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Stag Beer Elite League dismantling the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) 6-0 on Tuesday at the Camp Ayanganna ground.

Ronel Gordon led the goal rush with a double in the eighth and 80th minutes while Travis Grant, Julian Joseph, Omallo Williams and Gregory Richardson netted in the 18th, 29th, 45th+1 and 57th minutes respectively.

Due to the win, Pele solidified their lead at the helm with 21 points while GFC remain on eight points and in the seventh position.

Despite their 2-1 battle in the opening round, the contest was over before it began as Gordon netted two minutes into the affair, finishing past the goalkeeper from within the box after racing onto a through pass.

The score line then increased 16 minutes onward as Grant scored, slotting his effort clinically in the back of the net. Joseph then added his name to the scorer’s sheet 11 minutes later, finishing into the net after pouncing on a rebound after Richardson missed from the penalty mark.

The score then became 4-0 on the stroke of half time as Williams scored, racing onto a through pass before placing his effort beyond the ‘keeper within the 18-yard box.

The lopsided contest continued in the second period as Richardson finally etched his name on the scorer’s sheet 12 minutes into the stanza, volleying unchallenged within the centre of the box into the right side of the goal, after collecting a right side cornerkick

Gordon then applied the finishing touch to the rout 10 minutes before the end, bundling the ball over the goal-line while in the process of being tackled by the ‘keeper, after an initial right sided shot from Richardson was spilt into the path of the onrushing attacker.

In the feature contest, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) edged Monedderlust FC by a 2-1 score line.

Winner of the round will pocket $4,000,000 while the second, third and fourth place teams will collect $2,000,000, $1,000,000 and $500,000 respectively. Similarly, the point’s leader prior to the knockout stage in the League Genesis round will pocket an additional $1,000,000.
