Lewis punches his way to best boxer award at GBA National Open C/ships  

The Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) paid homage to former standout boxer, Terrence Ali by naming their National Open Championships after him.

One of boxers that looks up to Ali, Colin Lewis then punched his way to the Best Boxer award.

Lewis shone the brightest of all the up and coming stars of the fistic sport and lifted the coveted trophy of the annual three-night event.

At the event which concluded Sunday night at Andrew Lewis Gym, the GDF Gym product recorded three victories in the 64kg division to cement his status as the best boxer of the championship.

Lewis, who is now a triple champion, stopped Junior Kelly in round two of their bout, then returned to win on the scorecards versus Jason Phillips and Marlon Darrell.

For his exploits, Lewis who won at Novices, Intermediate and now at the Open, was rewarded with the coveted trophy.

His victories enabled GDF to retain the Best Gym trophy. GDF amassed 15 points while Republican tallied five. Forgotten Youth Foundation was third with four points.

Meanwhile, among the record 56 entries which showcased their skill at the packed venue, Jamal Eastman was adjudged the best youth boxer with the most potential.

Terrence Poole of GDF snared the best coach award.
