ST GEORGE’S, Grena-da, CMC – Assistant coach Ezra Moseley has given West Indies Women high marks after they completed a 3-0 series sweep of Pakistan Women on Sunday, to follow up their domination of the preceding one-day series.
Moseley said while there were certain aspects that still required improvement, West Indies Women had managed to bring all the various facets of their game together, to get the desired result in both phases of the tour.
“Overall we played very well. We came into the series looking to beat the Pakistanis 7-0,” Moseley said.
“We lost the first game [of the one-day series] but after that we came to the party and played well so overall we had an excellent series. “Most of the girls look fit and sharp and it can only augur well for West Indies cricket going forward.” On Sunday, West Indies Women saw their batting flop as they were bundled out for 88 with one delivery remaining in the innings, after being sent in at the National Stadium here.
Only opener Kycia Knight with a marvellous 49 off 48 balls showed any resistance and was the only player to reach double figures.
With the target adjusted to 78 off 17 overs following a rain interruption, West Indies Women hit back strongly to limit Pakistan Women to 77 for seven and tie the game, before winning in a dramatic super over.
Moseley said while he was pleased with the comeback, the batting department needed to do some introspection.
“We are trying to instil in the team a never-say-die attitude and that really came out … We got the super over, then we went out and restricted the Pakistanis to three in the super over. We got them in the end after looking a little shaky at the start,” the former Windies seamer said.
He added: “I’m not happy with the way they batted. Kycia in particular she batted well but the others really didn’t come to the party and that is something that they have got to look at.
“We’ve been telling them they have to take responsibility for their own game and some of the players who got out in soft ways today must take a look at their game and see where they can improve.”
He also had high praise for all-rounder Deandra Dottin who came into her own in the T20s after a run of low scores in the ODI series.
“I am happy she came into some form in the T20s. We were looking for her to score heavily in the ODIs, that didn’t happen but then she stepped her game up in the T20s and performed very well, and she richly deserved the Player-of-the-Series.”
West Indies Women won the one-day series 3-1.
