Winners Connection hammer Rosignol United 6-1

Winners Connections sent an early warning to the field in the Guyana Telephone & Telegraph Company (GTT) knockout football tournament, hammering Rosignol United 6-1 Saturday at the No. #5 ground.

Marmarlaque Davidson led the assault with a hat-trick in the 43rd, 55th and 62nd minutes while Fitzroy Chin, Rawle Gittens and Derrol Danity scored in the 17th, 68th and 89th minutes respectively. Netting in the loss was Oswin Carmichael in the 17th second.

The Lindeners are now on three points while the Berbicians remain without a point.

The fixture did not commence ideally for the visitors as Carmichael recorded the fastest goal of the event with only 17 seconds on the clock, blasting past the goalkeeper after racing onto a through pass within the box.

However, that proved to be the closest the Berbice unit got to claiming a victory as the rout began 16 minutes onward with Chin equalizing in clinical fashion, glancing his header into the left corner from within the centre of the box, after latching onto a right sided corner kick.

The visitors were then given a chance to make it 2-1 in the 40th minute as they won a penalty kick after Gittens was brought down in the area. Tasked with the responsibility from the distance, Gittens failed to find the back of the net as he fired his effort tamely into the ‘keeper’s grasp low to his right.

That miss did not prove costly as Davidson netted three minutes later, slotting his first time effort into the left corner, after collecting a right-side cross while racing into the left side of the penalty box.

The carnage continued in the second period as Davidson netted his second 10 minutes into the resumption, directing his header into the left hand corner, after collecting a right-side cross unchallenged within the left side of the six yard box.

It then became 4-1 seven minutes onward as he sealed his third of the night, racing onto a through pass within the box before rounding the advancing ‘keeper and finishing into the back of the net.

Guilty of missing from the penalty mark in the earlier exchanges, Gittens made no mistake from a similar distance six minutes onward as he buried his diving header into the left hand corner from within the left side of the box, after collecting a right-side cross.

Danity then sealed the lopsided contest one minute before the end of normal time, racing onto a lobbed through pass within the centre of the box before finishing into the left hand corner with only the ‘keeper in his path.

In the opening fixture, New Amsterdam United squeaked past Milerock 2-1. The event will continue today at the Victoria ground with another doubleheader. The opening match will pit Topp XX against Ann’s Grove while the second matchup will witness Golden Grove battling Victoria Kings.
