St Angela’s clinch first Pee Wee c/ships

St. Angela’s ascended to the league of fabled, clinching their first Courts Pee-Wee Under-11 football championship as they defeated a determined Enterprise Primary by a 3-1 score line yesterday at the Thirst Park Ground.

Eventual tournament most valuable player (MVP) and highest goal scorer Keyon Douglas with 16 conversions, piloted their championship campaign with a double in the 33rd and 40th minutes while Antonio McArthur opened the scoring with a 29th minute effort.

On target in the loss was Seon Archibald in the 36th minute. Due to the win, St Angela’s walked away with the championship trophy, medals, a set of team uniforms, certificates and a computer package.

The losers received the second place trophy, medals, six footballs, certificates and a computer package. In the individual section of the awards ceremony, Douglas walked away with the highest goal scorer award and a tablet for being the event’s MVP.

St. Angela’s completed the sweep of the individual player awards as Timeni Cort received the best goal-keeper award after conceding only one goal throughout the event.

Receiving the best coach award of an electronic tablet was St. Angela’s Oscar Payne while the most supportive teacher award of an electronic tablet went to Avril January of St. Angela’s. Collecting the most supportive parent award was Janice DeAbreu of South Ruimveldt Primary.

Following the pageantries of meeting General Manager of Courts Claude DeHaas, Sports Director Christopher Jones, representative of the Ministry of Education Nicholas Fraser, GFF Director of Marketing and Communications Rawle Toney, Marketing Manager of Courts Pernell Cummings and Petra Co-Director Troy Mendonca, the opening period failed to separate the teams as it ended scoreless.

The fixture eventually came to life nine minutes into the second period as McArthur unleashed a curling effort from the left side of the field, which settled perfectly into the top right hand corner, sending the large gathering into wild celebrations.

The score then became 2-0 four minutes later as the talismanic Douglas netted his 15th conversion, lashing his effort into the centre of the net after pouncing on a loose ball following a goal mouth scramble.

Archibald then provided a twist to the tale three minutes onward as he fired past the ‘keeper to keep his team’s title aspirations alive, stunning the partisan viewership in the process.

However, St. Angela’s would not be denied as Douglas scored his second of the day and his 16th of the event, skipping past his marker from the centre of the field before unleashing a thunderous strike into the left hand corner, igniting wild celebrations both on and off the playing area and sealing the deserved title in the process.
