GCC Ladies demolish Old Fort 7-0

The newly minted Pizza Hut Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) Ladies continued their dominant showing when the 11th Edition of the Diamond Mineral Water Hockey Festival continued on Saturday at the National Gymnasium.

The Bourda-based unit brushed aside Old Fort Shooting Stars by a 7-0 score line. Ashley DeGroot, Sonia Jardine and Kerensa Fernandes netted two goals each in the assault while Tiffany Solomon added one to the score.

In their matchup with arch-rivals Hikers, GCC won by a 5-1 margin to storm into the finale. Jardine bagged a hat-trick in the romp while Fernandes and Aliyah Gordon scored once. For the loser, Maria Munroe scored.  In the men’s division,  defending champ Pepsi Hikers dismantled Trinidad and Tobago unit Malvern 6-1 to clinch their berth in the semi-final round while GCC booked their berth in the final four after downing Phoenix 6-3.

Also clinching semi-final berths were 6ix from Canada and the National u-21 unit who defeated Old Fort and Malvern 5-3 and 6-0 respectively.  In the veteran’s division, GCC dismantled Old Fort 5-2 and YMCA of Barbados 3-0. Similarly, Hikers defeated Malvern and Carib of Trinidad and Tobago 3-2 and 5-1 respectively. Up to press time the respective semi-finals and finals were being contested.
