CASTRIES, St. Lucia, CMC A solid half century from Andre Fletcher steered Windward Islands Volcanoes out of trouble against Trinidad and Tobago Red Force on the opening day of their fifth round game in the Regional First Class Championship at Beausejour Cricket Ground here Friday.
Fletcher powered his way to his 17th first class half century, an attractive 63, hitting seven fours in the process, to help resurrect a dying innings after Volcanoes were sent in.
Fletcher, Devon Smith who scored 32 and captain Liam Sebastien 30, were the main run getters for the Windwards who suffered a batting collapse while attempting to negotiate the bowling of Uthman Muhammed and Imran Khan.
Muhamed grabbed two for 39 including three maidens and Khan two for 57 with six maidens as the homeside plummeted from 13 for one to 76 for five.
Fletcher and Sebastien compiled 72 runs for the sixth wicket allowing Volcanoes to edge their way back into the match.
However the Windward recovery suffered a major setback as the promising partnership came to an unfortunate demise when Sebastien was run out.
Shane Shillingford, who has already picked up two boundaries is 21 not out while Kevin McLean is on 15.
