Scorpions squander advantage after Miller’s five wicket haul

INGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Nikita Miller continued his wicket taking rampage with a five wicket haul to bowl out Guyana Jaguars but Jamaica Scorpions squandered the advantage on the opening day of their fifth round game in the Regional First Class Championship at Sabina Park here yesterday.

Miller grabbed five wickets for 46 runs with six maidens as the Jaguars collapsed for 189 but at stumps the Scorpions were themselves in trouble at 63 for the loss of four wickets.

Scorpions are trailing Jaguars by 126 runs with six first innings wicket standing to close off a dramatic day in which 16 wickets tumbled.

Miller struck early to remove the dangerous Assad Fudadin and captain Leon Johnson in successive deliveries as the defending champions slumped to 78 for three.

Fudadin scored four fours before he was caught by Devon Thomas on 47and Johnson was caught and bowled Miller for 16.

Vishal Singh picked up five boundaries on his way to 45 and Christopher Barnwell’s 23 was the last resistance of significance.

Miller removed Barnwell before cleaning up the tail sending back tailenders Steven Jacobs for 15 and Veerasammy Permaul for four.

John Campbell provided solid support with figures of three wickets for 45 runs including four maidens.

The Scorpions struggled to recover after losing Campbell to Raymon Reifer to the third ball of the innings without a run on the board.

Permaul in just five overs, four of which were maidens, snapped up two wickets for one run as Jamaica crawled to 63 for four.
