Double header to kick off Stag Beer knockout football competition

The second annual Stag Beer Super XVI knockout football championship will officially kick off today with a doubleheader at the Leonora Sports Facility, West Demerara.

The event will feature competing teams from East Coast, East Bank and West Demerara Football associations facing off during eight match days.

Competing in the tourney from East Coast Demerara Football Association (EDFA) are Victoria Kings, Ann’s Grove, Golden Grove, Mahaica Determinators and Beterverwagting (BV)/Triumph United while the West Demerara Football Association (WDFA) will be represented by Den Amstel, Uitvlugt, Stewartville, Beavers and Pouderoyen.

Defending champs Grove Hi-Tech will lead the East Bank Football Association (EBFA) section which also includes Herstelling Raiders, Agricola Red Triangle, Kuru-Kuru Warriors and Soesdyke Falcons.

In the opening fixture of the night at 18:00hrs, Beavers FC will lock horns with Herstelling FC. In the feature contest of the night, Uitvlugt Warriors will faceoff with BV/Triumph in the feature contest at 20:00hrs.

Winner of the tourney will pocket $1,500,000 and the championship trophy while the second, third and fourth place units will receive $500,000, $300,000 and $200,000 respectively and the corresponding accolade. The event will then continue on Friday at the Victoria ground with another doubleheader.

In the opening fixture at 18:00hrs, Ann’s Grove will oppose Stewartville while the feature contest will pit home side Victoria Kings against Stewartville from 20:00hrs. The grand finale is set for January 1 at the Leonora Sports Facility.
