From That Look Boutique’s last editorial featuring Lieve Blanckaert and Kimberly Niles, I decided to select the trends that I thought were cute and questionable.

Word up

20141115the last wordSome say fashion has become lazy because it doesn’t take much effort and creativity to put words on clothing. This type of wear has seemingly become quite popular over the last year or so and has been made trendy by the younger folk. I personally think it’s just a new era that we should embrace. Not everyone though. I think part of its influence stems from the social media and digital age language; the language that is spoken fluently by most young people. Take for example the emoji symbols that are used in text conversations, these are now being placed on sneakers that were introduced by Milan’s first fashion blogger who is also the first fashion blogger to ever score a Vogue cover. This emotive and direct messaging is one that I believe is just for youth. It’s that “cool” thing some people get or don’t get. Can you picture your parents saying “slay” “turnt” and “on Fleek” or even worse describing their daily activities using emoji symbols? It’s just one of those things that are really specific to an age group. I also don’t fancy seeing slogan tees on people that are big built as it defeats the whole easy to read purpose.

Conversation worthy

Clothes have always been used as a way of reading into one’s personality. I actually think the comeback of cartoon graphics on tees work as great conversation starters. You know since, everyone is usually dumbfounded in social settings because their heads are buried in their phones. However, I don’t think it’s something I would be seen in every day. It’s more of a casual thing and could come off as slightly childish, depending on how you wear it.

The basic age

From Net-a-Porter to ASOS, you can bet your last dollar they all carry your fashion staples; like crops tops, tank tops, tubes etc. I love this minimalistic trend that never seems to leave us and I love pairing statement pieces and simple pieces. I am not sure which I like more the distressed skirt or the crop. I wouldn’t purchase one without the other. Always stock up on basics, they always come in handy and never style expire.
