Christmas wish list

Christmas is almost here. It is the time of year that I believe consumers spend the most willingly, without feeling too guilty about it, or at least I do.

I think the urge to spend more is mainly driven by the commercialization of Christmas, having a bit more disposable income owing to Christmas bonuses and, of course, sometimes the ‘foreign top-up.’ By now, most online retailers would have already rolled out their holiday collections and by the end of the month, I’m pretty sure the brick and mortar stores will be fully stocked with overpriced goodies.

20141115the last wordI started browsing recently for looks I wanted to try this December. I don’t want to go on a shopping binge like I did last year;  loads of the pieces still have their tags on them. This year, I decided to focus on specific trends, fabric and styles I really loved as opposed to buying out of the notion that I have to because it’s Christmas.

I don’t know if you label your clothes according to the places and activities you frequent, visit or participate in. I do. These are my Christmas labels: Church Clothes, Party ‘Dan-Dan,’ Christmas Day Clothes and Old Year’s Day Clothes. These are my most special moments that I tend to get decked out for and I usually spend the most for. So far, these are the looks I have my eyes on.

Velvet

I absolutely love velvet. I think it’s so timeless and graceful. I don’t do knee-length for New Year’s Eve parties. I personally think it’s a typical way to be dressed to ring in the new year. Long gowns are always associated with special events and for me personally, the New Year is probably one of the most special holidays. There is so much positive association with it: fresh starts, change, growth. I love it. This year I am going for a timeless romantic look. It has been such a great year for me.

Flare Pants

I’m extremely bored and tired of skinny jeans. I feel as if it’s the only thing we have been seeing for the past five years. Even men took over the trend. I am also trying as hard as possible to stay away from denim and cuts that I would usually wear year round. I like this cowgirl looking flare pants! It reminds me of the 70’s. A look for – probably lunch on Christmas Day.

Accessories

I wouldn’t plunge into buying a whole set of new frocks for church. I would probably just accessorize my old ones differently. I love hats and fascinators. This one has quite the bit of an attention seeking vibe to it and it is sort of over the top for church. However, if you pair it with really basic outfits, it will more than likely humble your look.

Embellishments

Since Oliver Rousteing’s Balmain Collection for H&M, I’ve been sort of stuck on embellishments. I see a lot of retailers are trying to produce similar ones to binge off of his very successful collaboration. I found this teal/blue dress recently on Asos.com. I love the tassels and intricate detailing, it sort of reminded me of a Sari, but also the extra effort that goes into the holiday as a whole. This is definitely not a piece you would see around any other time of the year.

I’m not quite sure what else I will be getting for Christmas, but these are definitely on my list so far.
