In an effort to improve women’s football, the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) in collaboration with the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) and the National Women’ Football Association (NAWF) will launch a Developmental Championships on Saturday.

The event, which will be played in a group format, will feature approximately 13 teams from across the nation.

Some of the expected participants are Linden, Kwakwani, Bartica, Kuru-Kuru, West Demerara, Fruta Conquerors, New Amsterdam United, West Side Conquerors, the Guyana Defence Force and East Coast of Demerara

President of the NAWF Charmaine Wade during an invited comment said:“It’s a very good thing. For a long time our Lady Jaguars have been mostly overseas and that is because we don’t have much happening locally. Now for the next outings we will have a pool to choose from.”

She added that due to its focus on development, every team must include four under 15 players. Prizes and incentives for the championship are still be announced by the organizing bodies.
