Ramotar flays move on Riehl’s land

Former President Donald Ramotar yesterday condemned the government’s move to compulsorily acquire land belonging to High Commissioner to Canada, Clarissa Riehl and her husband and denied that the former PPP/C administration had initiated this plan.

Shabazz disappointed with team’s defeat by Suriname

Oil refinery questions

Dear Editor, I read in one of the dailies that the United States Ambassador Mr Perry Holloway had echoed the earlier statements by an official of Exxon Mobil, Guyana re “In terms of job creation, I want to take this opportunity to remind everyone that while this significant oil find will create jobs in Guyana, it is offshore and there are no initial plans for refining the oil in Guyana”.

Over 700 citizens to become social cohesion advocates

As part of the mandate of the Ministry of Social Cohesion, a Diversity Education and Inclusion Workshop Training of Trainers workshop was launched on Saturday at the Racquet Centre on Woolford Avenue, where 15 persons will be trained as part of a core team, which will train over 700 citizens to become social cohesion advocates.

Salary increases, contracted employees and the COI report

On 3 September 2012, we had carried an article entitled “State employees and the Public Service Commission” in which we bemoaned the fact that the then Administration was operating with two types of public service: the traditional public service; and a parallel service comprising hand-picked persons recruited on a contractual basis at emoluments and conditions of service superior to those of the tradition service.
