Having discussed all the various tooth and gum ailments over the past weeks, we must now logically turn to the prevention aspect.

20131103steveWe will share our own tested and proven preventative interventions, while including the ideas of one Cal Orey, who published his thoughts in Dog World of December, 1998. Our ideas are as valid now as they were then.

The following tips can direct your companion animal toward good oral hygiene.

 

  1. Take your dog to

the vet

I like that suggestion. Your veterinarian will do a health check-up which includes a physical and dental exam. If plaque and tartar build up is a problem, he or she will recommend a cleaning. If more work is required, you should be referred to a veterinarian
