Angel’s Trumpet

20130630Garden (Peggy Chin)Brugmansia commonly called Angel’s Trumpet originated along the Andes from Venezuela, Brazil and Chile in South America and comes from the Solanceae family.
Angel’s Trumpet has large, fragrant, trumpet-shape flowers which are pendulous (ie hanging down). The trumpet-shaped flowers have no spines on their fruits.

Related to Datura (Devil’s Trumpet), Angel’s Trumpet is a woody shrub. Its leaves, which sway gracefully from its sturdy branches, are large with coarsely-toothed margin and often covered with fine hair.

Angel’s Trumpet grows in well-drained soil in full sun and likes plenty of water. It comes in exciting colours of white, yellow, pink, orange and two toned. Flowers may be single or double. It should be fertilized with a well-balanced fertilizer every two weeks. Blue Corn can be used.

NB:  Please note that this plant is toxic. It is only grown as an ornamental in the garden.  Seek medical attention if ingested.

Until next week, Happy Gardening.
