Song of India

Garden (Peggy Chin)Pleomele reflexa variegata commonly called Song of India originated in Madagascar, Mauritius and other islands around the Indian Ocean.

Song of India is one of the finest foliage plants in the Dracaena family. It produces short yellow and green leaves with slightly twisting stems and can be grown outdoors in full sun. Song of India can grow to approximately three to four feet tall. It can also be grown as an indoor potted plant but must be placed in an area with bright light to retain its bright variegated yellow and green colour.

Plant Song of India in well-drained potting soil and remember to mist its leaves. However, over-watering would cause the soil to get too soggy. Fertilize with Miracle Gro All Purpose Plant Food once every two weeks.

Song of India leaves are prized by florists who use them in fresh floral arrange-ments and tropical centre-pieces.

My Song of India has survived the heavy rainfall. Please make sure that you have good drainage around this plant.

Until next week, Happy Gardening.
