Supply man charged with murdering nephew

A 65-year-old man was remanded to prison on Wednesday after he allegedly murdered his nephew.

Dennis Husain, appeared before Magistrate Susanna Lovell at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court where he was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge of murder.

The charge stated that on December 27, Husain unlawfully murdered his nephew, Sheldon Richards at his home in Supply, Mahaica.

Husain was subsequently remanded to prison and the matter was transferred to the Mahaica Magistrate’s Court for January 28, 2015.

The prosecution’s facts stated that while the two men were drinking at Richards’ home and Husain was ready to leave, Richards questioned whether he wanted to fight and subsequently picked up a piece of wood and dealt a lash to Husain’s head. After Husain was hit, he pulled out a knife and stabbed Richards to his chest, who then collapsed and died.
