Licence of repeat drunk driver suspended for six months

Two men were each fined $7,500 yesterday after they admitted to drunk driving.

Deon Persaud, 23, of Sixth Street Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol at Better Hope on January 2, while Kevlall Motilall, 22, of Lot 1 Independence Street, La Grange, West Bank Demerara, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol along the Industry Access Road.

Persaud and Motilall entered their guilty pleas when the separate charges were read to them by Magistrate Zamilla Ally at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court.

Persaud was previously charged with driving drunk in December. Since it was the second time he was convicted, his licence was suspended for six months. Motilall, an engineer, was ordered to pay fine of $7,500 or face five weeks in jail for the offence.
