Trio freed over cellphone theft

Three men who were charged with robbery were freed on Friday after their accuser opted against offering evidence against them.

20160111FreeSherwyn Adams, 36 , of 97 Pineapple Street, South Ruimveldt, Standoll George, 38, of 1003 East La Penitence and Godfrey Taylor, 55, of 459 West Ruimveldt, had been charged with stealing a cell phone, valued $140,000, from John Haynes on January 6th, at Cornhill Street, Georgetown.

The three men pleaded not guilty to the charge.

According to Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones, the phone was found in George’s possession.

However, Haynes, who was present during the hearing, was reluctant to give evidence against the men. He said that all he wanted was his cell phone with his contacts back so that he could get in touch with his workers in the interior.

As a result, Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, who presided over the case, dismissed the charge but placed Adams, George and Taylor on a bond to keep the peace.
