Man remanded over alleged seawall assault of ex

Floyd Beckles was on Tuesday remanded to prison on a charge of assaulting his ex-girlfriend after a city court heard that he had abused her on previous occasions.

Beckles is accused of assaulting Brittney Trotman on January 11 at the Kitty Seawall. Beckles, who pleaded not guilty to the charge, stated that he was the one that was assaulted and not Trotman.

The police prosecutor objected to bail as he feared that it was likely that if Beckles were to be released he would assault Trotman again.

It is alleged that Beckles had assaulted Trotman on previous occasions. It was also brought to the court’s attention that the accused and Trotman are currently in the midst of a dispute over a child that they had together.

The man was subsequently denied bail and the matter was adjourned to February 8.
