Teen accused of stealing $500,000 in jewellery during armed hold up

Anthony Simpson, 18, was yesterday remanded to prison after being charged with the gun-point hold up of a man, who was robbed of over half a million in jewellery and a mobile phone and shot during the attack.

It is alleged that Simpson, while being armed with a gun and in the company of another, robbed Nigel Marks Georgetown, on December 31, 2015, at North East La Penitence. During the robbery, it is alleged that Simpson stole a quantity of gold jewellery, valued at $500,000, as well as a phone, valued at $6,000.

Simpson, of Lot 101 Mandela Avenue, pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, in Georgetown. According to the police prosecutor, Marks was shot twice during the robbery. He added that no items were recovered since Simpson’s arrest. The accused was subsequently remanded to prison until February 4.
