The allegation against Dale Edwards stated that on January 20th, 2016 at First Avenue, Bartica, he drove motor lorry PKK 7351 in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of Danica James.

Edwards, 28, of Lot 45 Sixth Avenue, Bartica, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.

According to Edward’s lawyer, on the day of the accident, the defendant was driving the truck when James came in the path of the vehicle. Given the condition of the roads in Bartica, there was nothing the accused could have done to prevent the accident from occurring, the lawyer added.

Moreover, he stated, the family of the deceased has refused to proceed with the matter and are willing to be provided with compensation that would offset James’ funeral expenses.

The lawyer went on to make application for a reasonable amount of bail for his client since he said it was an unfortunate accident.

Police prosecutor Jones Deniro had no objections to bail, however, he requested that it be granted in a substantial amount.

Edwards was granted bail in the sum of $400,000 by the Chief Magistrate and will make his next court appearance on February 5th, at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
