$300M in budget for Golden Jubilee Year activities

A whopping $300 million have been allocated in the government’s proposed 2016 budget to support activities for the celebration of Guyana’s Golden Jubilee Year.

With this year marking the 50th anniversary of the country’s independence, Finance Minister Winston Jordan told the National Assembly on Friday that the government is calling on all Guyanese to reflect on the journey of the last 50 years, taking into account the people and experiences that have shaped the history and the lessons learnt, while mindful of the opportunities that have been missed.

“The generation that pauses to reflect during our centenary celebrations must be able to savour the legacy of the last 50 years. This year is the beginning of the creation that legacy,” he added.
