Two on bail over attacks on friends

Two men were yesterday both granted bail in a city court after they each denied attacking a friend.

Ravlon Pollard, 53, pleaded not guilty to an assault charge read by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan. It is alleged that on January 22, at East La Penitence, Georgetown, he inflicted bodily harm on Imran Khan.

According to case against him, Pollard, a mason, went to the home of Khan and told him that he had some work for him to do at a house. Khan then went with the accused to the house, where Pollard, without warning, dealt him several lashes about his body with a spade. As a result, Khan sustained several injuries about his body.

Chief Magistrate McLennan questioned the Police Prosecutor about whether the accused was given a psychiatric evaluation, to which she responded in the negative.

Along with the $150,000 bail Pollard was ordered to sign a bond to keep the peace until the completion of his trial. He is set to return to court on February 18.

Also charged yesterday was Mmchanical engineer Ryan Duncan, 21, who was released on $100,000 bail after he denied that he wounded a close friend.

Duncan is accused of wounding Devine Massiah on January 16, at Fifth Street, Alberttown, Georgetown.

The accused, who police say is a close friend of Massiah, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

He is set to return to court on February 15.
