Street vendor charged with cable theft

A street vendor accused of stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars in cable belonging to the Ministry of Public Health was yesterday granted $50,000 bail by a city court.

The accused, Andre McKenzie, 51, of Leopold Street, was read a charge stating that on December 15, 2015 at Georgetown, while being in the company of others, he stole 120 mm of cable valued at $327,548, property of the Ministry of Public Health.

McKenzie denied the charge and was placed on $50,000 bail by Magistrate Fabayo Azore, who ordered that he make his next appearance before the Chief Magistrate in Court 1 on February 9.
