Firefighters save Lamaha Springs home

Firefighters yesterday saved a Lamaha Springs home by quickly preventing the spread of a fire which originated in the downstairs kitchen area.

Firefighters arrived at the scene approximately 10 minutes after they were summoned by a neighbour, who saw smoke emanating from the building.

By the time Ouida Winter returned to her Lot 139 Lamaha Springs home yesterday afternoon, the fire had already been put out. The woman, a Courts employee, lives there with her husband, Hugh Winter, who was out of town at the time and their 11-year-old daughter.

In order to quell the flames, the firemen had to break the front and back doors to the house to gain entry into the building and the windows to aid ventilation.

According to them, the source of the fire was electrical and was reportedly sparked from a refrigerator in the room. Although they did not state what led to the malfunction, residents in the area have complained of frequent power outages, sometimes as many as five a day.
