East La Penitence man dies in Supply collision

A father of four died during the early hours of yesterday when he lost control of the car he was driving and collided with a sand truck.

Forty-five-year-old, Quilton Greene was a resident of East La Penitence, Georgetown. The accident occurred around 5:30 am yesterday on the Supply Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD).

The police in a press release said investigations into the accident revealed that Greene was driving his motor car when he collided with a motor lorry that was travelling in the opposite direction.

According to reports the man was pinned down in his vehicle before he was pulled out and taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Lashana Decaires, sister of the dead man told this newspaper that she received a call yesterday morning from an officer stationed at the Madewini Police Station informing her of the accident.

According to Decaires, at the time of his demise Greene had just left his wife’s Kuru Kururu home and was heading to Georgetown since she and he had an appointment for mid-day yesterday. “We supposed to go and transact some business up the East Coast and is that he did coming to town for to make sure everything in order and so when he got in accident”, the teary- eyed woman said.

She said that based on the information she received the truck was driving at a fast rate. “The truck driver was speeding and by time he could have see my brother and slow down, the vehicle did already crash up”, Decaires noted.

Stabroek News understands that the driver of the truck who is currently in police custody was heading to the sand pit located at Soesdyke when the accident occurred.

Greene had recently returned from the interior and started to work as a taxi driver. He leaves to mourn his four sons, wife, and other relatives.

His body is currently at the Lykens Funeral Parlour awaiting an autopsy.
