A verdict is likely today when the jury retires to deliberate on the evidence in the trial of Alvin Semple, who is charged with murdering Anna Catherina resident Balram Teekaram.

The indictment against Semple states that on April 16, 2011, he murdered Teekaram in the course or furtherance of a robbery.

He has pleaded not guilty.

The trial is scheduled to continue this morning, when Justice Jo-Ann Barlow will sum-up the case to the jury and hand over for its deliberation and the possible return of a verdict.

Both the prosecution and defence presented closing addresses yesterday morning.

It is the state’s case that the accused and others entered Teekaram’s home in the wee hours of the morning on April 13, 2011, with the intention of robbing him and in the process the man sustained injuries which resulted in his death three days later.

In his defence, Semple said that he has no knowledge of the charge levelled against him and that he was at home in bed at the time of the attack.
